A very cold weekend, slowly getting milder next week

A hit of very cold weather through this weekend. There is a risk of some snow showers in southeast England. Prior to this some snow affects eastern Scotland, fading into Saturday. Dry elsewhere with broken cloud and remaining cold, especially in southern areas. Tending to be drier to the north and wet. Temperatures slow recovering next week.

Saturday 17/3/18
A cold and breezy morning as a ridge of high pressure builds from Scandinavia and low pressure stays west of Ireland. A significant wind chill across all arreas making it feel bitterly cold. There will be bits of rain and sleet in much of England and Wales at first, with snow flurries affecting eastern areas. Tending to be drier to the west. The afternoon sees the snow flurries continue in the east, but most areas are likely to become drier. Remaining bitterly cold in the strong wind. Highs at 3 to 7C.


Sunday 18/3/18
High pressure is ging to be affecting the whole country through Sunday. Another bitterly cold day in southeast and southern parts of the country. Mostly dry although rather cloudy but there will be some snow showers in southeast England. A few bright or sunny spells in more western areas although staying cold. Highs at 1 to 5C.

 


Monday 19/3/18
High pressure will be over Scotland on Monday. A severe frost in the morning with some fog in more northern areas. Broken cloud to the south and mostly dry, although a few snow flurries on eastern coasts and hills. Highs near 2 to 6C.

 
 
 


Tuesday 20/3/18
Pressure remains high through Tuesday. This gives another morning frost. There could be some fog patches too, but these clearing to leave mostly dry weather with sunny spells. Highs at 5 to 8C.


Wednesday 21/3/18
High pressure remains in the south of the country on Wednesday. This brings dry conditions and sunny spells. Breezy with cloud and outbreaks of rain in western Ireland and western Scotland, although dry elsewhere. Highs at 8 to 11C.

Thursday 22/3/18
High pressure brings more dry weather in much of Wales, central and eastern England. Rain in western Scotland and Ireland, some of it heavy. Highs at 5 to 10C.
